Sunsurf Solar is the company that develops patented, unique solutions for sustainable and efficient floating solar power plants. Earlier this summer, we wrote about their project in Tångagård—the first large-scale installation in Sweden—where they were also interviewed by SVT and other media outlets.
We are now pleased to announce that Sunsurf Solar has signed an agreement to install a floating solar power plant with the municipal company Nårab in Skåne. This project not only generates clean energy but also contributes to improved water quality.
"This project with Nårab is a fantastic example of how our technology can deliver dual benefits – we produce renewable energy while improving water quality and maximizing the use of already exploited areas. We are proud to collaborate with innovative partners like Nårab, and this marks another important step in our journey toward a more sustainable future," says Marc Montgomery, CEO of Sunsurf Solar.
Nårab is responsible for the collection, treatment, and recycling of waste from households and businesses in the municipalities of Örkelljunga, Klippan, and Perstorp. The installation will take place at the Hyllstofta recycling center, where the floating park will be located on one of the facility's leachate ponds.
The project is an excellent example of how the use of existing spaces can be maximized while sustainably increasing energy production.
Sunsurf strives for long-term sustainability in everything they do, which influences their design and material choices to create products with a long lifespan. Unlike their competitors, they have designed the solar module to allow maximum light intake and maintain a distance from the water’s surface, both to fully leverage the water’s reflection effect and to protect the water and aquatic life beneath the installation.
Sunsurf Solar is based at Founders Loft and is part of the incubator in co-incubation with Innovatum Science Park. Our incubator supports impact-driven startups passionate about creating innovative and sustainable solutions. Here, entrepreneurs come together as part of a community of startups aiming to make a difference.
We are thrilled to follow Sunsurf Solar's journey as they contribute to the energy transition of the future!

About Sunsurf Solar
The company develops floating solar modules for energy production, designed for integration on artificial water bodies, water surfaces, and lands with low ecological value. As pioneers in floating solar parks in Sweden, the company aims to become an industry leader, offering competitive solar installations as an alternative to traditional roof- or ground-based systems.
Their floating solar installations reduce water evaporation and enhance the efficiency of solar cells through the cooling effect of water. Sunsurf also addresses the widely discussed conflict between increased energy production and maintaining food supply. By utilizing already exploited spaces, their floating solar modules eliminate the need for landowners to choose between dedicating arable land to solar energy production or continuing traditional farming practices.
Sustainability is a core focus for Sunsurf Solar. Their floating solar modules generate renewable energy and have a lifespan of at least 25 years, ensuring long-term and cost-effective energy production.
Sunsurf primarily focuses on irrigation dams, where their floating modules blend seamlessly with the environment. Additionally, these modules are suitable for quarries, bogs, wetlands, and peatlands.
